Ferro Sulphur developed and manfactured by the firm Feralloy v.s is specially tailored for the production of sulphur free cutting steels containg 03%S Until now free cutting steels were alloyed by addition of elementary sulphur onto ladle. The other methods filled wire or pyrite-are used only for correction of sulphur content because these products are too expensive. The allying by elementary sulphur has two main drawbacks -varying yield(60-90%) resulting in bigger dispersion of final sulphur content -strong enviromental pollution SO2 Ferro sulphur is a sintered mixture of iron powder and sulphur which contains 40%S. It is added to molten steel in ladle at tap in the same way as pure sulphur. The higher density of ferrosulphur keeps down evaparation of the sulphur. The new method of the sulphur addition brings the following advantages -substantial reduction of sulphur dioxide(80-90%) better yield of sulphur.
